Bachelor in Education (ICT)

    Overview

    The School of Education and the School of Computing and Informatics offer a Degree  programme in Information and Communications Technology in order to meet the stated national education goal of promoting the social , economic , technological and industrial needs for national development. The proposed Bachelor in Education (ICT) therefore , is meant to bring the two Schools in line with Vision 2030 and the  2005-2013 strategic plans of the two Schools and that of the University of Nairobi.

    The curriculum has been rationalized and revised in accordance with the policy requirements of the Ministry of Education for teacher education as explained in Session Paper no. 1 of 2005. In addition the curriculum has been updated to meet the needs of the various stakeholders.

    ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

    1. Holders of Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum aggregate performance of C+, or equivalent.

    2. Holders of Mean Grade C- or equivalent plus a certificate and Diploma.

    3. Holders of ‘O’ Level Division II or equivalent plus a Diploma

    4. Holders ‘O’ Level Division III or equivalent Plus a Certificate and Diploma.

    5.Holders of ‘O’ Level Division III or equivalent plus a three year Diploma from a recognized post secondary Institution for admissions to Bachelor of Education

    6. Diploma from University of Nairobi or other recognized institutions and an aggregate of C in KCSE or equivalent.

    7. ‘A’ Level with two Principal passes or equivalent in   relevant subjects.

    8. CPAII/CPS II/CIPS OR Equivalent for Commerce and Arts and should have attained an aggregate of C in KCSE or ‘O’ Level Division III.

    9. P1 from a two-year post secondary training institution for entry into Bachelor of Education.

    10. Higher National Diploma in relevant fields and should have attained an aggregate of C in KCSE

    11. Degree from a recognized University

    12. Equivalent qualifications to the above from institutions recognized by Senate.

    NB:

    a)       In addition to the above general admission criteria, applicants are required to

    have obtained C+ in at least two teaching subjects of their preferences..

     

    b)       For B.Ed (ICT) candidates must have the following in addition:

    (i) Holders of KCSE must have minimum grade of C+ in Mathematics and Physics.

    1. Holders of Kenya Advanced Certificate of Education (KACE) with   two principal passes, one of which must be in Mathematics or Physics.
    2. Holders of a credit grade Diploma in Education majoring in Computer Studies, Mathematics, or Physics, or a holder of a credit grade Diploma in Computer Studies.

    The Bachelors of Education (ICT) Programme is intended to prepare ICT teachers for secondary schools.  However, it is also suitable for people who serve as Technologists in the Schools as well as in the tertiary institutions both in the public and private sectors.  In addition some subject combinations provide competency in Planning, Information Systems Analysis and Design , Data Communications & Networks , as well as Programming Methodology. Students who go through the programme can also become trainers in tertiary institutions as well as institutions of higher learning. They can also work in the ICT industry.

    a)     Module I (Jab Students)

    • Tuition                   = Kshs. 28,500.00 per year
    • Accommodation       = Kshs.  5,642.00 per year

    b)  Module II (Self Sponsored Students)

    Level 1 (Year 1)                 =  Kshs.  167,500.00 p.a

    Level 2 (Year 2)                =  Kshs.  165,500.00 p.a

    Level 3 (Year 3)                = Kshs. 169,500.00 p.a

    Level 4 (Year 4)                = Kshs.  130,500.00 p.a

    Grand Total (55 Course Units)     = Kshs.   633,000.00
